Kaweah Health Foundation Receives $5,000 Grant from Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation to Support Childhood Nutrition Education

VISALIA, CA – The Kaweah Health Foundation has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation. The grant will help support Kaweah Health’s CalFresh Healthy Living program, which focuses on ensuring young children learn healthy nutrition habits that will last a lifetime.

The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation has awarded grants to more than 400 organizations nationwide during this round of their Health Habits for Life grant program, emphasizing the importance of promoting wellness and healthy living in communities across the U.S.

“We are very grateful to be one of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation grantees,” said Alma Torres-Nguyen, Community Outreach Manager of Kaweah Health and Project Director. “This money will help us raise awareness on the importance of healthy eating and active living beginning at a young age.”

The Kaweah Health Foundation plans to collaborate with local school districts and their Pre-K programs to deliver nutrition education to both children and their parents, aiming to reduce childhood obesity and encourage lifelong healthy habits. Through the CalFresh Healthy Living program, about 500 children throughout the county will benefit from nutrition education and taste-testing opportunities. Additionally, the program will assist schools in updating wellness policies focused on nutrition and physical activity.

The $5,000 grant will be used to cover key program expenses, including office supplies and travel necessary for reaching communities across the county. Staffing for the program is already covered by another grant.

This project is an important step in Kaweah Health’s ongoing mission to support the health and well-being of children in our community by instilling early education about nutrition and healthy living.
