Smoke-Free Campus
Kaweah Health is a leader in providing health care to this community. As such, we are committed to creating a smoke-free and tobacco-free campus, in and outside of our facilities, for patients, visitors, employees, medical staff, students, and volunteers.
As of Jan. 5, 2015, in-patients are not permitted to leave the Medical Center to smoke on hospital property. Additionally, hospital staff are no longer permitted to smoke on any hospital grounds. This action is grounded in medical science, which clearly demonstrates that patient outcomes for both medical and surgical conditions are inferior for patients who smoke. Additionally, smoking and second-hand smoke is widely recognized as the single most important cause of preventable human disease, including lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema. Kaweah Health has a responsibility to implement a policy that promotes a healthy environment for all.
A smoke- and tobacco-free campus provides a healthier environment for employees, visitors and patients, and reflects our commitment to support the health of our community.
